Stuck in Creepy Dates? Here is what to check
Last updated:
Exploring everything is not a requirement. Optional conversations are a bonus, so "I have looked at everything and nothing happens" almost always means one specific thing is unfinished — not that you missed a hidden click somewhere.
In practice it is one of five things:
- an unclicked decorating box in the hallway, living room or basement
- a room you never physically entered
- an object the story is waiting on — usually Ben's console in the basement
- an old build with a bug in it, fixed by reinstalling
- a genuine soft lock, fixed by loading your last save
Check 1: the decorating boxes (Chapter 3)
Laughing Jack asks you to decorate for Slenderman's visiting brothers, and this stalls more Chapter 3 runs than anything else. You must decorate three places — the hallway, the living room and the basement — by clicking the box of decorations in each scene.
The basement is the one people forget, because Ben is down there and it reads as his space rather than part of the task. Full walkthrough on the decorating guide.
Check 2: a room you have not entered
Progression in Creepy Dates frequently tracks whether you entered a location, not whether you exhausted its dialogue. So a room you glanced at from the hallway does not count.
The usual suspects are your own bedroom, Nina's room, the basement, and the rooms belonging to characters introduced in Chapter 2. The rooms guide lists every part of the CreepyHouse so you can tick them off.
Check 3: Ben's console, and objects like it
During the Chapter 2 sequence where Slenderman tells you to tidy up and look around, players reported being unable to trigger his return — and the missing step was interacting with Ben's console in the basement. Another player in the same thread confirmed that interacting with everything in the newer characters' rooms was what unblocked them.
Treat clickable objects as story flags rather than flavour: the console, the knife in Jeff's room, the candles in your bin. The Ben Drowned route covers the basement in detail.
Check 4: bugs with known fixes
Two documented bugs both come down to running an outdated build, and both are fixed by reinstalling the current version from Hahadit's official itch.io page. Chapters are add-ons, so your saves carry over.
- Chapter 2, after the rubbish task: if Slenderman was your favourite creepypasta and you rejected the proxy mission, the story stopped. Hahadit fixed it in October 2025. She also suggested trying a different combination of answers to Slenderman's end-of-chapter questions if it persists. See Chapter 2.
- Chapter 3, after speaking with Laughing Jack: a release-day bug that broke everything downstream. She patched it within hours of the Chapter 3 devlog going up.
Some players have also reported simply not being able to leave their own room after clicking everything. Load your last save; if it recurs in the same place, it is worth reporting.
Check 5: it is a chapter boundary, not a wall
If you have hit a "Fin" card, the chapter is over and the next one starts from that same save on a current build — Chapter 2 to 3 is automatic. A chapter that looks locked means an old build, not missing progress. The chapters page covers what is actually released, and the locked slot at the end is the placeholder for Chapter 4.
Things that are not bugs
- A character never showing up. Room order can lock an encounter out for the rest of that playthrough. Ticci Toby is the standard example, and the fix is a save from earlier, not a patch.
- Losing the cooking minigame. Players were convinced it was rigged. The combination that works is eyes, pasta, eyes — and no sauce.
- Spin the bottle not landing where you want. It is a scripted scene, not something you aim. See spin the bottle.
- The browser version failing to load. Usually Chapter 3's size on a low-memory device. Play options are here.
How to report a real bug
The game page has a Google form for bug reports, and that is where Hahadit actually looks — she asks for reports there, and asks pointedly that death threats go elsewhere. She is the only developer on the game.
A useful report names the chapter, the scene, what you clicked last, and whether you reinstalled first. The itch.io comment thread is the other good option, since players there have solved several of these blockers for each other before the developer saw them.
Frequently asked questions
I explored everything in Creepy Dates and nothing happens. What now?
Check for an unclicked decorating box in the hallway, living room or basement, a room you never entered, and objects the story waits on such as Ben's console. Exploring everything is optional, so the blocker is a specific unfinished step.
Do you have to explore every room in Creepy Dates?
No. Optional conversations are a bonus, not a requirement. But entering certain rooms is what advances specific sequences, which is why a room you skipped can look like a wall.
What does the console in the basement do in Creepy Dates?
Interacting with Ben's console is how you meet him in Chapter 2, and skipping it is a reported cause of the Chapter 2 clean-up sequence failing to move on.
Why does Creepy Dates stop after the rubbish task in Chapter 2?
That was a bug affecting players whose favourite creepypasta was Slenderman and who rejected the proxy mission. Reinstall the current build to get the fix; your saves carry over.
Why can't I leave my room in Creepy Dates?
Load your most recent save. Players have reported this as a genuine bug rather than a puzzle, and it is worth submitting through the bug report form on the game page if it repeats.
